East Haven Builders Supply was founded in 1960 by the Thomas family with the goal of becoming the dominant supplier of building materials to contractors primarily in the Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York markets. This family owned business sustained exponential growth while maintaining the core value of immediate response to details, customer needs, and service issue resolution.
In 1995 the company ventured into the design and sales of kitchen, bath, and other cabinetry with the creation The Kitchen Factor, a showroom open to the public in addition to builders and remodeling contractors. Experienced, seasoned professional designers were brought in with expertise, not only to sell product, but to plan, coordinate, and factor in all the components that make up the completed kitchen installation.
In 2005 East Haven Builders Supply was bought by Stock Building Supply, Inc. ranked in the top ten lumber and building suppliers in the U.S. and part of an even larger multi-national corporation, Wolseley Plc, a British company.
In 2008 Stock Building Supply, Inc. mandated the closing of two Connecticut kitchen showrooms in Wilton, CT and Glastonbury, CT. This was part of nationwide downsizing and location closures by Stock Building Supply, Inc. as central corporate management responded to the economic downturn. But at the same time Stock Building Supply, Inc. allowed for a total remodel of The Kitchen Factor main showroom in order to empower the long term designers from all locations in one spectacular showroom location. Our key local designers remained.
In 2009 East Haven Builders Supply and The Kitchen Factor were bought by US LBM Holdings, LLC and our original owner returned to the helm as president of the company that he formerly owned. US LBM Holdings, LLC became a major building material supplier in the US market in 2009 and 2010 as the company went from 13 locations to upwards of 30 locations each of which retained the existing local management. Central corporate provides support for the local management but all the day to day business decisions are locally made at all 30 locations.
Other companies talk about being responsive to the customers’ needs. At East Haven Builders Supply and The Kitchen Factor it is what we do. It is how we originally built the business. It is how we will continue to build the business. It is in our DNA.
